Springer Highlights Action for Women's Indoor Track and Field at Marc Deneault Invitational

ITHACA, NY (February 22, 2025) -- For the second consecutive weekend, Abigail Springer topped her record in the 200 meter dash, while five personal best marks fell as the King's College women's indoor track and field team competed at Cornell University's Marc Deneault Invitational on Saturday.
 
On the Track
60 Meter Dash

Abigail Springer finished 13th overall and fourth in her heat in 8.12 seconds, while Sophia Hahn crossed in 8.64 seconds. Cortland's Autumn Pittman posted the top time in the preliminary heats in 7.70 seconds.
 
200 Meter Dash
Abigail Springer placed 12th in the field of 37 and second in her heat in a new program-record time of 26.98 seconds, crushing her previous time of 27.20 seconds from the D3 Elite Meet last weekend. Ava Butcher finished 17th and second in her heat in a personal best time of 27.47 seconds, and Sophia Hahn was the final King's finisher with a time of 29.22 seconds.
 
400 Meter Dash
Sarah Hartzell was the lone Monarch in the field as she posted a time of 1:14.32. Cornell's Jordanne Nichols was the top finisher in 1:01.18.
 
800 Meter Run
Julia Johnson paced King's in the event, taking 15th in a personal best time of 2:35.70, while Lindsey Eyer crossed in 2:40.77. Samantha Adams was the final Monarch runner in the event with a personal best time of 2:52.20. Buffalo's Juliette Salazar won the race in 2:18.92.
 
Mile
Shelby Shepanski led a pair of Monarchs with a personal best time of 6:42.86, while Mara Ryan finished in 6:49.49. Caroline Kirby of Syracuse won the event in 5:06.14.
 
60 Meter Hurdles
Victoria Zultevicz finished 11th overall and fourth in her heat in 9.79 seconds. Ithaca's Laura Suppa had the top time in the preliminary heats in 8.71 seconds.
 
In the Field
High Jump

Maddy Armitage placed fifth with a height of 1.55 meters, while Abigail Thompson finished seventh with a mark of 1.45 meters. Dani Rimsky rounded out the trio as she cleared the 1.40-meter mark for a new personal best. Marguerite Lorenzo was the top finisher with a height of 1.81 meters.
 
Long Jump
Victoria Zultevicz was the lone Monarch in the event as she recorded a jump of 4.33 meters on her second attempt. Hannah Adderley-Julien recorded the top mark at 5.69 meters.
 
Pole Vault
Victoria Zultevicz placed 11th overall as she cleared a height of 3.15 meters. Cornell's Avery Hilliard recorded the best mark at 4.10 meters.
 
Shot Put
Brandy Varner had a fifth-place finish with a throw of 12.57 meters on her second attempt. The next three Monarch throwers took 13th, 14th, and 15th, as Delaney Hilferty recorded a toss of 10.49 meters on her second try, Caitlin Kirk posted a mark of 10.45 meters on her first attempt, and Sophia Lukowski rounded out the group with a toss of 10.40 meters on her third attempt. Cornell's Noelle Elkinton won the event with a mark of 13.87 meters.
 
Weight Throw
Katey Shoemaker led the Monarchs as she placed fifth with a mark of 15.12 meters on her second attempt, while Delaney Hilferty finished eighth with a throw of 14.62 meters on her first try. Brandy Varner finished just outside the top 10, taking 11th with a toss of 13.76 meters on her first attempt, and Catilin Kirk rounded out the group with a throw of 12.88 meters on her second try. Cornell's Avery Hastings was the top finisher with a mark of 17.09 meters.

The Monarchs will now set their sights on the 2025 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships beginning next Friday, February 28 at Alvernia University. Full championship details and preview will be available later next week.
