Wrestling Loses on the Road to Cortland on Thursday Night

CORTLAND, NY (February 6, 2025) -- The King's College wrestling team fell to Cortland 33-7 on Thursday night in the Whitney T. Corey Gymnasium.
 
Patrick Horvath was in a close battle at 125 with Christian Lievano but lost in a 14-11 decision. At 133, Cole Anderson was defeated by Cody Merwin in a 14-5 major decision. Jacob Torres lost to Dom Vinci in an 18-0 technical fall at 141. Brian Hopkins fell to Angelo Centrone in 0:46 at 149. Jordan Bentley lost his 157-bout by pinfall in 3:50 to Justin Klein.
 
At 165, Nick Costello was neck-and-neck with Joseph Visciano but succumbed to a 16-11 decision loss. Jacob Hachtmann put the team on the board with a 23-9 major decision win over Gavin Seiler at 174. Jake Bobersky came in to add tallies with a 5-3 decision victory at 184 against Robby Cunningham. Josh Brown was dropped at 197 in a 7-3 decision to Tymothey Murrell. Nick Valenzano battled hard through three periods but came up short with a 2-1 decision loss to Seth Parker in their heavyweight match.
 
The Monarchs competed in two exhibition matches. Angel Avalos was defeated by Rocco Futia at 141 in a 20-3 technical fall. At 165, Alex Ballantyne lost to Jack Pickersgill in a 14-5 major decision.
 
King's will be back on the road for the Scranton Duals at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 8th against Scranton, Hunter, and Utica. The squad will travel to Hoboken, NJ to take on Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opponent Stevens at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11th.
