Women's Track and Field Records 13 Top Finishes at Annual Monarch Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 22, 2025) -- The King's College women's outdoor track and field team had a very successful opening weekend to the 2025 outdoor season with 13 first-place finishes at their annual Monarch Invitational at the Betzler Outdoor Track.
 
On the Track
100 Meter Dash

Abigail Springer was the top finisher as she crossed in 13.54 seconds, while Sophia Hahn placed fifth in 14.81 seconds. Juliet Brady rounded out the trio in seventh with a time of 15.31 seconds.
 
200 Meter Dash
Abigail Springer claimed first again with a time of 27.20 seconds. Sophia Hahn placed sixth in 30.08 seconds, followed by Laura Dainauski in seventh in 30.35 seconds. Juliet Brady finished out the packed field for King's in eighth with a time of 30.63 seconds.
 
400 Meter Dash
King's thrived in this event as Ava Butcher won in an outdoor program record time of 1:00.20, while Samantha Adams took fourth in a personal best time of 1:05.73. Laura Dainauski finished sixth in 1:07.09, and Sarah Hartzell placed seventh in 1:11.20.
 
800 Meter Run
Lindsey Eyer and Julia Johnson claimed the top two spots in the event, with Eyer winning in 2:42.14 and Johnson crossing in 2:43.77.
 
1,500 Meter Run
Shelby Shepanski placed fourth overall in 6:12.69, while Mara Ryan took sixth in 6:22.43. Marywood's Milana Straub was the first to cross in 4:57.35.
 
5,000 Meter Run
Cecilia Chipriano won the event in 20:07.09.
 
100 Meter Hurdles
Victoria Zultevicz won the race in 15.98 seconds.
 
400 Meter Hurdles
Victoria Zultevicz took the top spot with a personal best time of 1:10.87.
 
4x400 Meter Relay
The team of Ava Butcher, Samantha Adams, Julia Johnson, and Lindsey Eyer won the race in 4:40.40.
 
In the Field
High Jump

King's took the top three spots, led by Maddy Armitage with a height of 1.51 meters, while Abby Thompson finished second with a mark of 1.41 meters. Dani Rimsky placed third with a height of 1.36 meters.
 
Pole Vault
Dani Rimsky won the event as she cleared a personal best height of 2.35 meters.
 
Discus Throw
The Monarchs took the top four spots, led by Brandy Varner with a Monarch Invite and Betzler Track facility record throw of 42.02 meters on her fourth attempt, while Delaney Hilferty took second with a toss of 34.86 meters on her second throw. Caitlin Kirk placed third with a toss of 34.52 meters on her first try, and Katey Shoemaker finished fourth with a mark of 32.97 meters on her first throw. Sophia Lukowski took sixth with a personal best toss of 29.95 meters, and Roni McClelland placed ninth with a mark of 25.33 meters on her first throw.
 
Hammer Throw
King's swept the top six spots in the event, led by Katey Shoemaker with a Monarch Invite and Betzler Track facility record mark of 49.67 meters on her final attempt, while Delaney Hilferty posted a throw of 41.23 meters on her fourth try to place second. Caitlin Kirk took third with a mark of 41.22 meters on her sixth toss, and Brandy Varner claimed fourth with a throw of 40.52 meters on her sixth attempt. Anna Bellucci finished fifth with a mark of 40.40 meters on her sixth toss, and Sophia Lukowski placed sixth with a personal best throw of 37.00 meters on her first try.
 
Javelin Throw
Katey Shoemaker finished second overall with a mark of 31.30 meters on her first try, while Sarah Hartzell took fourth with a toss of 26.10 meters on her second attempt. Marywood's Leah Zambetti was the top finisher with a mark of 35.11 meters.
 
Shot Put
Brandy Varner led the Monarchs as they took the top five spots in the event with a mark of 12.43 meters on her fourth throw, while Caitlin Kirk finished second with a throw of 10.87 meters on her fifth attempt. Sophia Lukowski recorded a personal best toss of 10.82 meters to take third on her third toss, and Delaney Hilferty placed fourth with a mark of 10.46 meters on her sixth try. Roni McClelland rounded out the group with a throw of 9.78 meters on her fourth attempt.

The Monarchs are set to compete at Widener University next Friday and Saturday in the annual Danny Curan Invitational.
