WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 2, 2025) --
Logan Dougherty and
Aiden Glasgow each set their own respective single-season records as the King's College men's volleyball team dropped their regular-season finale, 3-1, to the visiting Widener University on Wednesday night in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play. The Monarchs conclude their 2025 regular season 12-16 overall and 1-7 in the MAC, while the Pride move to 16-12 with a 3-5 conference mark.
Â
King's (12-16, 1-7 MAC) started the match hot, feeding off the energy from the senior-day crowd in McGrane Gymnasium. After the Pride picked up the first point of the match, the Monarchs rattled of the next five, including a pair of kills from Dougherty and two aces from Maskiell. The set went back-and-forth before Widener (16-12, 3-5 MAC) knotted the score at 14 apiece, but kills from
Greg Bousquet and
Alex Martellacci and an ace from
Antonio Tavarez boosted the King's advantage back to 17-14. The Pride closed back within three down the stretch, 22-19, but the Maskiell delivered again with two aces in the final three points as the Monarchs took set one, 25-19.
Â
Widener settled in the remainder of the match as they stormed out to a 21-8 lead in the second before posting the 25-14 final in set two to tie the contest at 1-1.
Â
King's had the early edge in the second, leading 11-8, but the Pride tallied four unanswered points to take back the lead, 12-11. Another ace from Maskiell and a kill from Dougherty made it a 14-12 game in favor of the Monarchs, but Widener responded with an 11-3 rally to go up, 23-17. King's did not go away quietly as Dougherty posted three kills down the stretch before the team dropped the 25-21 decision in the third to trail 2-1 in the match.
Â
The visitors seemed as though they may run away with the fourth as they held a 7-2 edge early. King's battled back within two, 12-10, before the Pride went on a 6-1 stretch to build their 18-11 lead. Trailing 22-14, the Monarchs staged their comeback, out scoring Widener 10-2 in the next stretch of play behind three aces and two kills from Dougherty, but the efforts came up shy as the Pride claimed the fourth, 26-24, and the match, 3-1.
