Seniors Shine as Women's Outdoor Track and Field Competes in Annual Monarch Open

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 25, 2025) -- Two outdoor program records, three Monarch Open records, and two Betzler Complex records fell on Friday afternoon as the King's College women's outdoor track and field team competed in their annual Monarch Open.
 
On the Track
100 Meter Dash

Abigail Springer was the top finisher in 12.90 seconds, while Juliet Brady finished fifth in 14.22 seconds.
 
200 Meter Dash
Abigail Springer set a new outdoor program and Monarch Open record and won the event in 26.09 seconds, topping her previous time of 26.20 seconds from the 2024 MAC Championships. Ava Butcher placed third in a personal best time of 26.54 seconds, while Nicole Zambetti placed seventh in 28.32 seconds. Laura Dainauski took ninth in 29.34 seconds, and Juliet Brady placed 10th in 30.06 seconds.
 
400 Meter Dash
Laura Dainauski led a trio of Monarchs as she placed third in 1:03.77, while Samantha Adams crossed in a personal best time of 1:04.84 to take fourth. Sarah Hartzell finished sixth in a personal best time of 1:09.06. Marywood's Abby Megotz was the top finisher in 1:00.97.
 
800 Meter Run
Lindsey Eyer placed seventh overall in 2:37.05. Susquehanna's Liza Levin won the event in 2:23.29.
 
1,500 Meter Run
Shelby Shepanski placed 10th overall in a personal best time of 5:57.44. Marywood's Milana Straub won the race in 4:53.63.
 
5,000 Meter Run
Cecilia Chipriano won the event in 20:23.12, while Mara Ryan placed fourth in a personal best time of 23:52.22.
 
400 Meter Hurdles
Julia Johnson won the event in 1:15.37.
 
4x100 Meter Relay
The King's team of Victoria Zultevicz, Ava Butcher, Abigail Springer, and Abby Thompson won the event in a Monarch Open record time of 50.20 seconds, while the other Monarch squad of Delaney Hilferty, Sophia Lukowski, Katey Shoemaker, and Caitlin Kirk took third in 58.64 seconds.
 
4x400 Meter Relay
The King's team of Nicole Zambetti, Samantha Adams, Lindsey Eyer, and Julia Johnson won the event in 4:27.30.
 
In the Field
High Jump

Maddy Armitage won the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters, while Dani Rimsky and Abby Thompson tied for fourth as they cleared a height of 1.36 meters. Victoria Zultevicz placed seventh with a height of 1.36 meters.
 
Pole Vault
Victoria Zultevicz shattered her own program record to win the event with a Monarch Open and Betzler Complex record as she cleared a height of 3.60 meters, topping her previous height of 3.30 meters from the 2023 MAC Championships, while Dani Rimsky took fifth with a personal best height of 2.50 meters.
 
Long Jump
Abby Thompson finished third overall with a personal best mark of 4.58 meters. Misericordia's Natasha Mihalko was the top finisher with a mark of 5.01 meters.
 
Shot Put
King's swept the top four spots in the event, led by Brandy Varner with a mark of 12.06 meters, followed by Delaney Hilferty with a throw of 11.16 meters. Sophia Lukowski placed third with a personal best toss of 10.99 meters, and Caitlin Kirk recorded a mark of 10.82 meters. Roni McClelland placed seventh with a throw of 10.27 meters.
 
Discus Throw
The Monarchs again took the first five spots in the rankings, led by Brandy Varner who won the event with a Monarch Open record mark of 41.28 meters, followed by Delaney Hilferty in second with a throw of 37.43 meters. Katey Shoemaker took third with a personal best toss of 36.63 meters, and Caitlin Kirk placed fourth with a personal best mark of 36.61 meters. Sophia Lukowski finished fifth with a personal best throw of 36.29 meters, and Sarah Hartzell posted a toss of 25.10 meters.                
 
Javelin Throw
Victoria Zultevicz finished second overall with a personal best mark of 27.33 meters, while Sarah Hartzell placed fifth with a throw of 25.28 meters. Leah Zambetti of Marywood won the event with a toss of 34.62 meters.                      
 
Hammer Throw
Katey Shoemaker won the event with a Monarch Open and Betzler Complex record mark of 51.67 meters, while Caitlin Kirk placed second with a throw of 46.94 meters. Brandy Varner finished third with a toss of 41.61 meters, and Delaney Hilferty took fourth with a mark of 41.11 meters. Sophia Lukowski placed ninth with a throw of 32.80 meters to round out the group for King's.

The Monarchs set their sights on the 2025 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships set for next weekend, May 1-3, at York College (Pa.)'s Graham Field.
