WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 27, 2025) -- The King's College baseball team dropped their final two Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contests to DeSales University on Sunday afternoon, 6-0 and 15-5, at Lipo Field. The Monarchs wrap up the regular season 11-27 overall and 3-18 in the standings, while the Bulldogs improve to 20-18 and 12-9 in the conference.
Â
Game 1 – L, 0-6:
Game one was all DeSales (20-18, 12-9 MAC Freedom) as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. The next three innings flew by before the Bulldogs struck again, plating a pair in the fifth and another in the sixth.
Â
King's (11-27, 3-18 MAC Freedom) put up two hits in the bottom of the sixth to try and spark some offense on a one-out single from
Kevin Kullman and a two-out single from
Jacob Sutton.
Owen Ness was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but the Bulldogs defense took care of business down the stretch as the Monarchs dropped the 6-0 decision in game one.
Â
Six different Monarchs had hits in the loss.
Josh Kilvitis picked up the setback on the mound, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits in 4.1 innings of work.
Â
Gavin Zavorski went 3-for-4 with two runs, a double, and an RBI to lead the Bulldogs. Frank Parrotti threw the complete-game shutout, scattering six hits over 7.0 innings.
Â
Game 2 – L, 5-15:
Each team scored in the first as DeSales plated one run off one hit in the top of the frame before King's got on the board for the first time on Sunday in the bottom of the inning.
Troy Neff singled to center, and
Jaiden Wanamaker was hit by a pitch. A fielder's choice saw the Bulldogs get out Wanamaker at first, but a throwing error by the shortstop on the attempt to throw out
Zach Day at first went awry as Neff came in to score and tie the game, 1-1.
Â
The Bulldogs wasted no time regaining the lead, tallying three runs in the second and another three on a three-run home run from Zavorksi in the top of the fourth to jump ahead, 7-1. DeSales tacked on their eighth run of the game in the sixth before driving in five runs in the seventh.
Â
The Monarchs staged their comeback to prevent the shortened game in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring four runs on three hits.
Michael Cohen was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before Neff doubles to right center. Wanamaker walked to load the bases, and Day drove in a run on a hit to left. A throwing effort by the Bulldogs third baseman allowed Neff to cross safely and put runners on second and third with one out. A ground out by Kosar brought in Day, and a single from
Brayden Schoonmaker drove in Kullman as King's cut the deficit to 13-5.
Â
DeSales bats stayed lively in the top of the eighth, scoring two more, and the Monarchs were unable to plate any additional runs in the bottom of the eighth as they fell, 15-5, in game two to drop the series to the Bulldogs.
Â
Neff went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two runs, while Day had a hit, a run, and an RBI. Both Kosar and Schoonmaker had a hit and an RBI, and Sutton tacked on a hit to round out the offensive production in game two.
Dusty Shaver collected the loss as the starter, giving up six earned runs on seven hits through 3.2 innings of work.
Â
Colin Houck led the Bulldogs in game two, going 3-for-5 with two runs and a double, while Zavorski plated five runs on two hits. Joe Ficoturo earned the win as the starter, tossing 6.0 innings while allowing six hits and four earned runs.
