WILLIAMSPORT, PA (August 30, 2025) -- The King's College men's soccer team improved to 2-0-0 on the season after beating Penn College 4-1 on the road Saturday afternoon. After the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-1-0.
What seemed to be a scoreless battle going into half was turned around in the blink of an eye as the Monarchs struck first with 11 seconds to spare in the first frame. With about twenty seconds left in the half, graduate student
Evan Egantovich opted to send his corner kick to the top of the box to first year
Brayden Lane. Lane took the pass off the second bounce and sent a ripper past the keeper into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal, giving King's a 1-0 advantage just before the break.
From the moment the second half ensued, the Monarchs seemed to find another gear offensively, scoring two goals in the first six minutes of the second half. Senior
Philip Permyashkin scored the first of the two at the 48 minute mark after a header from Lane was deflected by a defender and left right in front of the goal for Permyashkin to put it away. At 50:39, Egnatovich dribbled straight down the middle of the field, avoiding Wildcat defenders before sending a low-running shot past the diving Penn keeper and putting King's ahead 3-0.
King's was not done there as they added their fourth goal of the game at the 65:37 mark. While on the counter,
Anthony Ramirez made two defenders miss as he took a shot between three Wildcats into the top right corner of the net to bring the Monarch lead to four.
The Wildcats netted their first goal of the game at 66:19 on a penalty kick coming from Scott Goldfeder following a yellow card on first year
Freddy Sahaydak to cut into the Monarch lead. The yellow on Sahaydak was one of eight yellows handed out on Satuday. Five of the yellows were on King's players, including
Jackson Nuttall, Permyashkin, first year
James Leonard, Sahaydak and
Joshua Scotland.
While not having any shots on goal in the first half, Penn began to put some pressure on the Monarchs in the second half with three shots on goal. Sophomore
Ben Van Valkenburg took away all three opportunities, picking up three saves in the 4-1 victory.
While the Monarchs had four separate goalscorers, Egnatovich was the only monarch with multiple points as he tallied a goal and an assist.
King's men's soccer will look to improve to 3-0 for the second year in a row as they head to Oneonta, NY next Saturday, September 6th as they will take on the Red Dragons of Suny Oneonta in the Mayors Cup Tournament. First touch is set for 2:30 PM at Red Dragon Field.
