WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 19, 2025) - Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Head Coach Aaron Perez is bolstering his staff as Bill Grace, Andrew Schutz, and Steven Newell were all named Assistant Wrestling Coaches.
"Starting at King's as a wrestler in 2019 I've had the privilege to watch the team grow through the years and was there to guide the team through the transition of 3 different coaching staffs in less than 5 years. I am excited to return as an assistant coach to continue the legacy and culture of King's Wrestling and to watch and guide the team's success from a different side of the mat," said Grace. "I look forward to seeing what I can help the team and these young men accomplish in the coming season."
Grace was a four year wrestler at King's, winning a total of 48 matches. Throughout his career, he competed at 184 and 197 lbs. In his final season, Grace posted his fastest pin in 1:31 and tabbed a second place finish at the 2024 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.
Andrew Schutz wrestled for Div I Bloomsburg University for three years at 133 lbs, posting an overall record of 57-42. He finished his Senior season at 23-7 and placed 2nd at the EWL Conference Tournament, 2nd at the PSAC Championships & 1st at the Black Knight Invitational. Prior to Bloomsburg, competed for Div 2 Seton Hill University, finishing 24-11 at 133.Â
"I'm excited to join Coach Perez, staff and the storied Monarch wrestling program. King's provides an excellent opportunity for its student-athletes & I am expecting big things from the team right out of the gate," said Schutz. "I'm looking forward to assisting with the program's development and future successes."
Steven Newell wrestled at Div I Davidson College for two years at 174 lbs. In high school, he was a three time district 2 champ and a two time state qualifier. Newell holds the Dallas High School record for wins at 153. He was the recipient of the 2018 Hooper Award as the best high school wrestler in the Wyoming Valley Conference.
"I'm grateful to be a part of the coaching staff and excited to help these guys get better," said Newell. "I think this year will be a great year for King's College Wrestling."
Our Assistant Coaches will be responsible for providing training opportunities for our student athletes as well as coaching them at events throughout the season. They will also have a hand in implementing technique into the team practice curriculum.
Bill, along with his role in the Exercise Science Department, will serve as an on campus check in point for our student athletes.
"These new additions to our coaching staff will ensure our student athletes are receiving strong mentorship on and off the wrestling mat," added Perez. "Coach Grace, Coach Newell and Coach Schutz have a wide breadth of experience from the Division 1 to the Division 3 level of NCAA wrestling and their local ties to the community will largely benefit our program. Our existing staff is excited to start working alongside them this season to get the most out of this strong team we have built."
