Men’s Soccer Draws Even with Neumann 1-1 After Physical Battle

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 19, 2025)— The King's College men's soccer team played Neumann University to a 1-1 draw on Saturday Night. With the result, the Monarchs move to 2-2-3 on the year while the Knights also sit at 2-2-3 in 2025. The draw marks the third for King's in their last four contests.

Neumann took an early lead in the 9th minute as Markus Beugre found the back of the net. After a quick buildup through midfield, Beugre received the ball near the top of the box and fired a low shot past King's goalkeeper Ben Van Valkenburg to give the Knights a 1-0 advantage.

King's answered in the 18th minute on a set-piece play. Philip Permyashkin swung in a perfectly placed corner kick from the right side, finding Cameron Jones in the box. Jones rose above the defenders and powered a clean header into the net to knot the score at 1-1.

Early in the second half, the momentum shifted when Neumann's Beugre was shown a second yellow card at the 57th minute for a late challenge, reducing the Knights to 10 men. King's took control for much of the remainder of the match, pressing hard and creating multiple chances with the man advantage.

Despite leading possession and creating scoring opportunities with the man advantage, King's was unable to find the game-winning goal as the Monarchs were met with a disciplined defensive effort. Van Valkenburg made several crucial saves to keep King's in the match, including a spectacular point-blank stop at the 70th minute.

The best chance for the Monarchs to break the tie came in the 74th following a Permyashkin free kick from just outside the box. His shot was headed for the bottom left corner of the net before being saved by the Neumann keeper to maintain the 1-1 deadlock.

The physical intensity of the match was evident, with a total of seven yellow cards issued—including two to Neumann's Beugre, which resulted in a red card—and numerous fouls called as both teams battled fiercely throughout the game.

Both teams continued to push for the winner in the final minutes, but neither side could break the deadlock, resulting in a 1-1 draw that reflected the fierce competition on the field.

Permyashkin led King's offensively with six shots, including two on goal, and recorded his second assist of the season. Jones scored his second goal of the season for the Monarchs. Van Valkenburg made five saves, helping keep King's in the match.

King's men's soccer returns to the pitch on Tuesday, September 23 as they head to Selinsgrove, PA for a game with Susquehanna University starting at 7:00 PM.
