WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 27, 2025) – The King's College men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting Hood College on Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium. With the result, the Monarchs move to 2-4-3 overall, while the Blazers now sit at 5-2-1 on the season.
Hood opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Chino Delgado found the back of the net off a setup from Zeth Zambrano.
King's responded with consistent pressure and was rewarded in the 40th minute, when
Philip Permyashkin fired a trio of shots, one blocked, one saved and scoring the third. He collected the deflection off the Hood keeper's save and slotted home a shot to tie the game at 1-1.
The Monarchs held a slight edge in the first half, outshooting Hood 6-4 and putting three shots on goal to the Blazers' two. King's also earned a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks, while goalkeeper
Shane Hughes made one save in the opening 45 minutes. Hood committed eight fouls to King's 12 in a physical first half.
The Monarchs continued to test the Blazers' defense early in the second half, including efforts from
Matt Maraia,
Brayden Lane, and
Mark Atherton, but could not capitalize. The best of these chances came from Atherton on a shot from a right to left cross. His shot sailed just left of the target.
The match tilted in Hood's favor in the 71st minute with an own goal that gave the visitors a 2-1 lead. James Knowlton extended the advantage in the 84th minute, finishing a pass from Timmy Hill, and Zambrano capped off the scoring just two minutes later to make it 4-1.
Permyashkin led the Monarchs offensively with a team-high six shots, including three on goal, and scored the lone goal in the 40th minute.
Jackson Nuttall, Maraia, Atherton, Lane, and
Nick Tighe each recorded a shot.
Hughes made six saves in the match, including a series of strong stops between the 67th and 77th minutes to keep the Monarchs within striking distance.
King's men's soccer will return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 1, in Schenectady, NY as the Monarchs head to Union College for a game set to start at 7:00 PM.
