Men's Volleyball Splits Tri-Match Opener

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (January 17, 2026) — The King's College men's volleyball team earned a split on Saturday afternoon inside McGrane Gymnasium, falling 3–0 to Kean University before rebounding with a straight-set victory over Cairn University in the second match of the tri-match.

Match 1: Kean 3, King's 0
Kean took the opening match by set scores of 25–23, 25–16, and 25–23, pulling away late in each frame to secure the sweep. The Monarchs battled throughout, keeping the first and third sets within reach before the Cougars capitalized on key points down the stretch.

Logan Place led King's offensively with 12 kills, while Greg Bousquet added seven kills and Antonio Tavarez chipped in eight. Alex Martelacci contributed six kills and six digs, and Aiden Glasgow anchored the back row with a team-high 13 digs. King's totaled eight team blocks, with Logan AikensAntonio Tavarez, Alex Schoch, Place and Bousquet all factoring in at the net. Ben Maskiell led the Monarchs with 31 assists.

Match 2: King's 3, Cairn 0
The Monarchs responded with a strong performance in the second match, sweeping Cairn by scores of 25–16, 25–23, and 25–15. King's controlled the tempo throughout, posting efficient offensive numbers and tightening up defensively after the earlier loss.

Place again paced the Monarchs with 15 kills, hitting an impressive .565 on the match. Greg Bousquet added 11 kills, while Alex Martelacci and Place each chipped in three kills. Brady Taylor led the team in digs with seven while Aikens dominated at the net with a solo block and three block assists. Maskiell tallied a game-high 30 assists.

King's was sharp at the net, recording eight team blocks, and limited Cairn's scoring chances with strong serve receive and transition play. The Monarchs hit .406 as a team in the victory and closed out the third set with composure to complete the sweep.

The Monarchs will look to build on the win over Cairn as they continue their early-season schedule when they take on Elizabethtown on Tuesday at 7 PM.
