Varner Claims First in Two Events for Women’s Track and Field at River Hawk Invite

SELINGROVE, PA (January 17, 2025) -- Fresh off of winter break, the King's College women's track and field team returned to action at the River Hawk Invite hosted by Susquehanna University.

In the field events, Soyer Delucy placed tenth overall in the long jump at 4.42m while teammates Abigail Thompson and Dani Rimsky claimed 12th and 14th respectively as Thompson jumped for 4.31m and Rimsky finished with a leap of 4.21m.

Thompson additionally earned sixth in the high jump with a personal best of 1.48m while teammate Avery Kosloski claimed 12th at 1.38m.

Brandy Varner topped the weight throw event of 40 throwers with a personal best toss of 15.67m. Katey Shoemaker placed third with a throw of 15.06m and Caitlin Kirk threw for 13.79m to claim sixth.

Varner continued her dominance with a win in the shot put at 12.80m, placing first out of 43 competitors. Kirk and Nayeli Moliere earned 12th and 13th respectively with throws of 10.47 and 10.45.

In the track events, Ali Butcher, Erin McLean, and Timara Klotz made their indoor debuts by finishing 10th, 11th, and 12th in the 60 meter dash as Butcher ran a time of 8.49, while Mclean crossed the line at 8.62 and Klotz at 8.65.

Ava Butcher claimed victory in the 400 meter dash at 1:01.66, while Katherine Smith placed third in 1:05.09 and Sarah Hartzell earned sixth at 1:09.15.

In the 200 meter dash, Ava Butcher placed third out of 33 runners with a time of 27.52. Ali Butcher and Katherine Smith claimed 28.53 and 28.84, placing ninth and eleventh overall and winning both of their heats.

The Monarchs return to action next Saturday, where they will compete in the Hounds Classic hosted by Moravian University at the Rauch Fieldhouse in Bethlehem, PA.
