COLMAR, PA (January 23, 2026) -- Despite putting up a strong defensive effort, the King's College women's ice hockey team suffered a 4-0 loss to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opponent Arcadia, Friday night at the Hatfield Ice Arena. The Monarchs fall to 1-16-0 on the season and 1-12-0 in the MAC, while the Knights climb to 11-4-2 overall with a 9-3-1 record in conference play.
Arcadia controlled play from the opening faceoff, testing
Will McPherson early and often as the Monarchs' goaltender was forced into a string of saves in the first few minutes. The Knights generated several clean looks, while King's relied on early blocked shots from
Emma Heinrich and
Abby Barlocker to keep the game scoreless through the opening stretch.
The pressure finally broke through at 10:37 of the first period when Arcadia converted at even strength to take a 1-0 lead. The Knights continued to dictate possession after the goal, piling up shots and forcing McPherson to stay sharp as the Monarchs struggled to establish sustained time in the offensive zone.
Late in the period, the Monarchs dodged a bullet when Arcadia found iron when a shot rang off the pipe at 17:13, keeping the deficit at one. Moments later, matching penalties erased a brief King's power play chance and set up a special teams sequence that favored the home side. With under 15 seconds remaining in the period, Arcadia capitalized on the power play at 19:45 to extend the lead to 2-0 heading into the intermission.
The second period opened much like the first, with the Knights firing four quick shots in the opening 40 seconds that McPherson turned aside. King's found brief life with back-to-back chances from Heinrich and
Amanda Sokol, but Arcadia quickly reclaimed momentum in the offensive zone.
Just three seconds after another hit pipe, Arcadia scored at 7:16 to push the lead to 3-0. The Knights continued to swarm the zone for much of the middle frame, forcing multiple saves from McPherson while
Victoria Fleury-Wright,
Riley Kumrow and
Annie Sommer stepped in front of shots to slow the attack.
Arcadia struck again late in the period at 19:26, finishing a sustained shift in the offensive end to make it 4-0 after two periods.
King's looked to establish some offensive zone time early in the third after drawing a penalty at 5:41. While on the man advantage, Barlocker fired off a shot, forcing the Arcadia goaltender to make a save. The Monarchs generated a handful of additional looks in the period from Sokol,
Sammi Stead and Heinrich, but were unable to solve the Knights' netminder.
Defensively, King's continued to battle in front of McPherson, with multiple late blocks from Barlocker, Fleury-Wright and
Eva Goner helping limit second-chance opportunities as Arcadia kept firing shots towards goal.
Arcadia maintained possession for much of the final period but did not add to its total, as McPherson closed out the game with another series of steady saves to keep the score at 4-0 through the final horn.
Sokol anchored the Monarchs' offense with a team-high three shots on goal. She was followed by Barlocker and
Maddie Vaughan with two apiece. Vaughan led the team with nine wins in the faceoff circle, followed by
Jerrett Tietz with six.
Defensively, Fleury-Wright continuously kept shots away from McPherson's crease with five blocks. Barlocker trailed closely behind with four, while 10 other King's skaters recorded blocks to highlight a selfless team effort in the defensive zone. Between the pipes, McPherson turned aside 63 shots, moving the sophomore netminder's career save total past 500.
The Monarchs return to the Hatfield Ice Arena tomorrow for another MAC showdown with Arcadia. Puck drop against the Knights is scheduled for 1:40 p.m.
