Butcher and Varner Highlight Women's Indoor Track & Field with School Records at Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY (January 31, 2026) – The King's College women's indoor track and field team turned in a standout performance at Saturday's Nazareth Conference Challenge Cup, placing fifth among 14 scoring teams with 42 points, highlighted by two athletes breaking school records on the day.

In the field events, Brandy Varner kicked off the day with a first-place finish in the shot put with a personal best toss of 13.68m. Caitlin Kirk earned 11th with a toss of 10.75m while Nayeli Moliere placed 16th with a throw of 10.14m.

Varner continued her dominance with a personal best and school record breaking mark in the weight throw, as she finished second out of 37 throwers at 16.02m. Current teammate Katey Shoemaker initially broke the previous at the MAC indoor championships last year with her throw to 15.85m.

Kirk and Shoemaker additionally showed an impressive performance in the weight throw as Kirk threw a personal best of 15.55m to receive third overall while Shoemaker threw to 15.53m to earn fourth.

In the high jump, Abby Thompson placed sixth at 1.43m while Dani Rimsky finished ninth at 1.38.

In the track events, the group of Ali Butcher, Timara Klotz, Erin McLean, and Ava Butcher finished second overall in the 4X200 meter relay with a time of 1:51.6.

Ava Butcher placed seventh overall and second in her heat, breaking her own school record of 1:00.92 with a new time of 1:00.81 in the 400 meter dash.

Ava Butcher continued to show a strong performance at the meet, as she finished 10th overall in the 200 meter dash at 27.28. Ali Butcher ran a personal best time and finished 14th overall at 27.80, while teammate McLean stopped the clock at 29.31 to receive 32nd.

King's women's indoor track and field returns to action next week on Saturday, February 7, as the Monarchs head to the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA.
