WILKES-BARRE, PA (October 3, 2026)— On Saturday afternoon, the King's College field hockey team honored nine graduating players —

Shaylee Heffron,
Abbey Grulke,
Davina Krappa,
Sophia Pettinelli — ahead of the first conference matchup of the season against #17 Stevens Institute of Technology.
The Monarchs fell to the Ducks by a score of 7-0, dropping to 1-9 overall while Stevens improves to 6-4 on the season. King's also fell to 0-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play, while the Ducks improved to 1-0. The Ducks outshot the Monarchs 32-1 and held an advantage on penalty corners 12-3.
The visitors came out strong with three goals in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Ducks added another goal to go up 4-0. Stevens continued to pressure the Monarchs, but first-year goalkeeper
Tierney Hogan stopped multiple shots. Near the 26th minute,
Brielle Spears recorded the first defensive save of her career, while Hogan blocked a shot seconds later. Hogan had 11 saves at halftime.
The Ducks continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, adding two more goals to make the score 6-0. The Monarchs had their first scoring chance near the 44th minute, as
Julia Behnke took a penalty corner and passed it to senior captain
Shaylee Heffron, who took the first shot of the game. A Stevens defender blocked the attempt and prevented Heffron from scoring.
The home team could not produce anything else on offense, as Stevens scored its seventh and final goal at 53:43. Hogan finished the day with a total of 16 saves.
The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday, October 7, at McCarthy Stadium as they take on Misericordia at 7 p.m.Â
