Monarchs Rewrite Record Book in 10-1 Season-Opening Victory Over Hiram

PITTSTON, PA (October 30, 2026) -- The King's College women's ice hockey team opened the 2026-27 season in historic fashion on Friday evening, rolling to a 10-1 victory over Hiram College at the Revolution Ice Centre. The Monarchs improved to 1-0 on the year, while the Terriers fell to 0-1 in their first game in program history.

The offensive explosion rewrote the King's record book, as the Monarchs established new program single-game records for goals (10), points (20), and margin of victory (9).

The night also featured several career milestones. Jerrett Tietz and Riley Kumrow each scored the first goals of their collegiate careers while Cameron-Reese Haught, Claudia Roderique, Chloe Crowley, Chloe Julien, and Malea Viola all found the back of the net in the very first game of their collegiate careers. Captain Sammi Stead added a goal to cap a dominant offensive showing on the ice.

Hiram grabbed the early lead just 3:08 into the opening period, but King's answered less than five minutes later when Haught scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Roderique to even the contest at 1-1. The Monarchs took the lead for good at the 9:25 mark as Kylee Riscoe buried her first collegiate goal off a feed from Kumrow. King's struck again only 20 seconds later when Roderique netted her first collegiate tally with assists credited to Haught and Abi Carr.

Stead pushed the advantage to 4-1 with an unassisted tally at 11:29 before Crowley added her first collegiate goal at 13:40 on a highlight reel play, deking around a defender before burying her shot top shelf. Julien capped the six-goal opening period with her first career marker at 17:05, sending the Monarchs into the intermission with a commanding 6-1 lead.

King's continued to pour on the offense in the second period. Haught scored her second goal of the night just 51 seconds into the frame off a pass from Paris Benard. Viola followed with her first collegiate goal on the power play at 8:03 with assists from Stead and Julien. Tietz then joined the scoresheet with her first career goal at 12:22 off assists from Julien and Brynn Holland before Kumrow completed the scoring 19 seconds later for her first collegiate goal.

While the offense grabbed the headlines, the Monarch defense and goaltending remained sharp throughout the third period. King's netminder Will McPherson delivered one of the best saves of the night at 15:35, denying a Terrier skater on a clean breakaway to preserve the nine-goal advantage.

Nine different Monarchs scored in the victory, led by Haught and Julien with three points each. Haught recorded two goals and an assist, while Julien finished with a goal and two assists. Their three-point performances tied for the second-highest single-game point totals in program history.

Roderique and Kumrow each added a goal and an assist, while Carr, Benard, Holland, Stead, and Tietz all contributed assists as King's established a new program record with 10 helpers.

McPherson finished with 22 saves in net to earn the victory in the junior's season debut.

The Monarchs return to the ice on Saturday afternoon to complete their opening-weekend series against Hiram at the Revolution Ice Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
