Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Arcadia’s Third Period Surge Sinks Men’s Ice Hockey in Road Finale

COLMAR, PA (February 14, 2026) – After more than 40 minutes of scoreless action, the King's College men's ice hockey team yielded four unanswered goals to drop a 4-0 result to Arcadia University in the final away game of the 2025-26 season, Saturday afternoon at the Hatfield Ice Arena.  The loss moves the Monarchs to 4-17-3 on the season and 4-13-3 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play. The Knights improve to 9-12-3 overall and 6-11-3 in conference action.

The opening period set the tone for a disciplined and sharp defensive performance, as Mikey Harrel Jr. got in the way of an early shot to keep the puck away from the Monarchs' crease. King's recorded 12 shots in the frame, including an early look from Teodor Benno Vaage while Denys Arkhypenko and Grant Parshall registered a pair of opportunities within four seconds of one another.

At the other end, Williams turned aside 13 shots in the first frame, several in quick succession as Arcadia attempted second‑chance efforts off rebounds and shots from the point. The Monarchs were effective in front of him, as Harrel Jr. contributed another block while Benno Vaage and Jayden Baldinelli also got into shooting lanes.

A late penalty call against King's sent the penalty kill unit onto the ice for the first time on the day. Williams remained sharp, denying a pair of Arcadia shots in the final 10 seconds of the period. After 20 minutes of action, both teams exited the ice still in search of the opening tally.

The second period began with Monarchs tasked with killing the remaining 38 seconds of their penalty. Kevin Martin and Benno Vaage finished off the kill with blocks, preventing the Knights from reaching Williams' net. With play back at five-aside, Steven Armstrong tested the Knights netminder with a shot but was denied.

Shortly after, Arcadia pushed with layered zone time, but a timely stop by Williams coupled with blocks from Martin and Baldinelli calmed the Knights' offensive surge. Baldinelli, Harrel Jr., Martin, Thomas Soucy Bennett Anklewich and Gianmarco Caringi all put shots on target, but were unable to crack the Arcadia goaltender as both teams remained locked in a 0-0 stalemate through the midway point of the game.

Williams and the King's defense came under strong pressure from the 12-minute mark to the end of the period. The Monarch netminder made six saves in a sequence of sustained Arcadia possession in their attacking zone and received help in the form of blocks by Baldinelli, Martin and Justin Spurrell.

The Knights' surge resulted in a penalty called against King's with just over three minutes left. The Monarch's penalty killers limited the middle and kept shots to the outside, and Williams handled the rest to preserve the 0-0 score after 40 minutes. Arcadia generated 24 shots in the frame, all turned aside, with the Monarchs answering with nine of their own and a handful of faceoff wins to relieve pressure.

Early in the third, the stalemate finally broke. Arcadia converted off an even‑strength sequence a few minutes into the period, then doubled the lead mid‑frame after a run of exchanges that included King's attempts from Parshall, Baldinelli and Spurrell. The Monarchs kept pressing through consecutive shifts, with Harrel Jr. and Braydon Buckingham adding shots while Burleigh and Spurrell recorded additional blocks to keep the margin reachable.

Inside the final four minutes, King's pulled the goaltender to chase a comeback and was stung by a long-distance empty‑net goal moments later. A scrum shortly after produced penalties on both sides and the hosts added a late 4-on-4 tally in the final two minutes to set the 4-0 final. King's still created late offense; Soucy and Anklewich each pushed pucks to the net in the closing half minute, but the bounce wouldn't come.

Harrel Jr. paced the Monarch offense with five shots while adding three blocks in the defensive zone. Martin won a team-high 10 faceoffs and also laid out for a trio of blocks. Baldinelli got in the way of four shots to lead King's in the blocks department. Behind him, Williams delivered a 42-save performance in goal.

The Monarchs return to the Revolution Ice Centre next Friday for their final game of the 2025-26 campaign, facing off against Neumann University. Puck drop against the Knights is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to get to their seats early for a pregame ceremony honoring graduating senior, Denys Arkhypenko.
