FRANKLIN, MA (February 14, 2026) — The King's College men's volleyball team earned a split in Saturday's tri-match at Pieri Gymnasium, rallying for a five-set victory over Dean College before falling in four sets to Curry College in the second match of the day.
Match 1: King's 3, Dean 2
The Monarchs opened the day with a hard-fought 3–2 win over Dean, taking the match by set scores of 25–20, 22–25, 20–25, 25–20, and 15–4.
King's jumped out to an early advantage in the opening set, using balanced offense and strong defensive play to secure a 25–20 win. Dean responded in the second and third sets, capitalizing on long rallies and forcing errors to take a 2–1 lead in the match.
Facing elimination, the Monarchs delivered their best stretch in the fourth set, tightening up defensively and hitting .188 as a team to even the match with a 25–20 victory. Momentum carried into the decisive fifth set, where King's dominated from the start, hitting .571 and jumping out to an early lead before closing out the match with a convincing 15–4 win.
Greg Bousquet and Alex Martelacci led King's with 11 kills apiece, while Antonio Tavarez added eight kills on .412 hitting. Logan Place contributed seven kills, and Alex Schoch added seven kills and four blocks. Brian Weaver directed the offense with 29 assists, while Bousquet finished with a team-high 16 digs and Aiden Glasgow chipped in 15 digs in the victory.
Match 2: Curry 3, King's 1
In the second match of the tri-match, King's dropped a 3–1 decision to Curry by set scores of 25–19, 19–25, 15–25, and 22–25.
The Monarchs opened strong, taking the first set behind efficient attacking and solid serve receive. Logan Place led the offense early, helping King's hit .333 in the opening frame.
Curry responded in the second set, gaining control with improved blocking and transition offense to even the match. The Colonels carried momentum into the third, limiting King's to a negative hitting percentage in the frame while building a 2–1 match lead.
King's battled in the fourth set and stayed within striking distance throughout, but Curry pulled away late with a key run to secure the match.
Martellacci led King's with 13 kills, while Place added 12 kills on .407 hitting and Bousquet contributed eight kills and a team-high 19 digs. Tavarez finished with five kills and Weaver recorded 30 assists in the loss.
King's finished the day with strong back-row defense and balanced offensive production, going 1–1 on the day and gaining valuable match experience as the Monarchs continue their early-season schedule. The Monarchs return to action on Saturday, February 21 when Manhattanville and Hunter come to town for a tri-match at 12 and 4 PM.
