Varner Wins Weight Throw as Monarchs Break School 4x200 Relay Record on Day One of 2026 MAC Indoor Championships

READING, PA (February 27, 2026) – The King's College women's track and field team opened competition Friday at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at the Tom and Helen Flynn Complex, hosted by Alvernia University, recording multiple podium finishes and a school record. King's stands second with 29 team points, two behind Lebanon Valley entering day two.

In the women's weight throw, three Monarchs earned podium finishes in a competitive 35-athlete field. Brandy Varner claimed gold with a winning mark of 17.12 meters, while teammate Caitlin Kirk secured silver with a personal best toss of 16.39 meters, surpassing her previous top mark of 15.55 meters by .84 meters.

Katey Shoemaker earned a sixth place podium finish at 14.16m. Nayeli Moliere additionally competed in the event, earning 21st overall at 11.90m.

In the long jump, Soyer DeLucy placed 12th overall with a top leap of 4.96 meters.

On the track, the squad of Sarah Hartzell, Samantha Adams, Kat Smith, and Cecilia Chipriano placed tenth with a time of 13:53.97 in the 4,000m Distance Medley Relay.

Ali Butcher finished third in her heat and ninth overall in the 60-meter dash prelims, crossing the line at 8.17.

The Monarchs ended day one by taking home the silver medal in the 4 x 200 meter relay, as the group of Ali Butcher, Ava Butcher, Erin McLean, and Smith ran a school record time of 1:47.88 which was 1.05 seconds better than the previous best.

The Monarchs resume competition on Saturday, February 28, at 9:30 a.m. at the PLEX in Reading, PA.
