Monarchs Combine for 29 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of St. Mary’s (MD)

ABERDEEN, MD (March 10, 2026) -- There was no shortage of offense in the King's College baseball team's twin bill against St. Mary's College of Maryland on Tuesday afternoon, as the Monarchs' bats unleashed a combined 29 runs on 29 hits in the doubleheader sweep. After outlasting the Phoenix 8-6 in Game 1, King's delivered a 21-run offensive showcase in Game 2 to close the day with a 21-8 statement win at the Ripken Complex. The Monarchs level their season record at 3-3, while St. Mary's falls to 4-7 on the campaign.

Game 1 - W, 8-6
After righthander Christian Galimi worked his way out of a two-on jam in the top of the first,  King's wasted no time seizing control. Troy Neff ripped a leadoff double to right, Dominic Carafa drew a walk and Owen Kosar dropped down a sacrifice bunt to put two runners in scoring position. Jason Cunha struck first with a two‑run single to center, later scoring when Zach Jenkins drove him home with a single of his own. Jordan Andino added an RBI double to left, and Jaiden Wanamaker capped the five‑run surge with a run‑scoring single to right as the Monarchs sent eight batters to the plate in the first.

The Monarchs kept the pressure on in the second when Kosar lined a two‑out double into left field before Cunha delivered again, this time ripping an RBI double to right to make it 6-0. On the mound, Galimi worked efficiently through the first three innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four and inducing a steady stream of fly‑ball outs to keep the St. Mary's runners off the basepaths.

King's added another run in the fourth after Carafa reached on an error and Kosar notched his second double of the day, setting the stage for Cunha, who lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Carafa, opening up a 7-0 lead. The Seahawks responded with a three‑run fifth before King's answered in the home half with a Kevin Kullman double to right and a two‑out RBI single by Noah Gesford, pushing the lead to 8-3.

St. Mary's mounted another rally in the sixth, scoring three times on a walk, a single, a wild pitch, and two RBI swings. With the bases loaded, the Monarchs turned to Jacob DiCicco out of the bullpen and the right‑hander steadied the inning with a sac fly and a strikeout to preserve a two-run lead for King's. DiCicco returned for the seventh and closed the door with three routine outs, highlighted by a lineout to short and a grounder to the left side to earn his first save of the season.

Cunha powered the offense with four RBI on two hits, including a double. Kosar put up a pair of two-baggers while Neff, Andino and Kullman also found gaps in the outfield for extra-base hits. In total, the Monarch bats combined for 10 hits in the victory.

Galimi claimed the win after 4.1 innings of work on the mound, only allowing one earned run and tallying four punchouts. DiCicco struck out two batters in 2.0 innings of relief pitching to pick up the save.

Game 2 - W,  21-8
The Monarchs set the tone in the opening frame; batting around the order and sending 11 batters to the plate to produce seven runs. Kosar got the offense started with an RBI double to right before Andino knocked a run‑scoring single up the middle. With the bases loaded, Jenkins was hit by a pitch to force in a third tally, and Brendan Kopec followed with an RBI single through the box. A passed ball brought another run across, and Blaze Graham punctuated the inning with a two‑run single to center as the Monarchs built a 7-2 lead after one.

King's continued to apply pressure in the second when Carafa singled with two outs and Andino sent a clean RBI single to center to restore a four‑run cushion. In the third, Graham ripped a two‑out double to right, Neff was hit by a pitch, and Kosar worked a bases‑loaded walk that forced Graham home to make it 9-4. The Monarchs kept adding in the fourth as Kopec bounced an RBI single to left and Neff followed with a sharp RBI single to right, pushing the margin to seven. The advantage grew again in the fifth as Nathan Gilson delivered a two‑out RBI single to center to make it 12-4.

The Seahawks cut into the lead with a four‑run top of the sixth, however King's answered immediately with a game‑sealing response in the bottom half. Kopec led off the inning with a single before a hit‑by‑pitch and a bunt single by Neff loaded the bases for the middle of the order. Carafa lashed a two‑run double to the gap and Kosar followed with another two‑run double. After a walk put two men on, Andino lined a single to juice the bases once again. Wanamaker produced a pinch-hit RBI groundout and Ryan Schmidt lifted a sacrifice fly to put the Monarchs in control, 18-8. Graham then blasted a two‑run triple into the right‑center alley while Neff capped the nine‑run inning with an RBI single for the 21st and final run.

Graham finished with four hits - including a double and a triple - and drove in four. Kosar collected his third and fourth doubles of the day and totaled four RBI. Neff and Andino each recorded three hits and two RBI as Kopec stacked three hits with two driven in.

The bullpen covered the final five and two‑thirds and allowed only one multi‑hit inning down the stretch while the offense pulled away. Justin Hoadley earned his first win of the season after going 3.0 innings on the mound in the relief appearance.

The Monarchs conclude their time at the Ripken Complex in Aberdeen, MD tomorrow, hosting Wilson College. First pitch against the Phoenix is slated for 12:00 p.m.
