BIRMINGHAM, AL (March 13, 2026) – King's College senior
Brandy Varner showed a spectacular performance with an All-American finish in the weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday afternoon from the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, AL.
Varner finished seventh in the field of 20 throwers, by breaking her own school record of 17.51 meters from last week at the AARTFC Championships with a toss of 17.64 meters. The senior standout secured her first All-American accolade in her first national indoor championship. Varner previously competed in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships last year, as she placed 19th in the discus throw at 38.53 meters.
She becomes the first Monarch female athlete to earn All-American in the weight throw, and the second Monarch to earn the award in program history. Additionally, Varner became the first king's track and field athlete to earn All-American since Jill Korgeski placed sixth at indoor nationals in the shot put with a toss of 13.67 meters in 2019.
Varner started off the day with a throw of 17.47 meters to put her in fifth in the first heat. While her second and third attempts were fouls, that didn't stop Varner from qualifying for the finals as she clinched the top nine, sitting in sixth. On the first attempt of the finals, Varner gave it her all with a miraculous throw of 17.64 meters, breaking the school record and moving into seventh overall to earn the All-American honor.
Caityln Cox from Loras College won the National Championship with a Division III record toss of 21.00 meters.
Varner returns to action tomorrow afternoon, as she looks to secure her second All-American award by competing in the shot put at 3:00 p.m.
