WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (March 21, 2026) — The King's College men's volleyball team split a home tri-match on Saturday at McGrane Gymnasium, sweeping Hood College in the opener before falling to St. John Fisher in straight sets in the second match of the day. Prior to the final match of the day, the program took time to honor graduating players Alex Martellacci, Ben Maskiell and Greg Bousquet with a Senior Day ceremony.
Match 1: King's 3, Hood 0
The Monarchs opened the day with a dominant performance on Senior Day, defeating Hood by set scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 25-19.
King's controlled the match from the start, hitting .417 in the opening set and .421 in the second while building comfortable leads in both frames. The Monarchs totaled 37 kills on an efficient .353 hitting percentage and never trailed in the match.
Senior setter Ben Maskiell reached a major milestone in the victory, recording his 2,000th career assist for King's while finishing the match with 25 assists, five service aces, and eight digs.
Alex Martellacci led the offense with seven kills on .455 hitting, while Logan Aikens was highly efficient with seven kills on .778 hitting. Brian Weaver added six kills, and Logan Place chipped in five kills on .625 hitting in limited action.
Defensively, the Monarchs totaled 34 digs and eight team blocks, with Aikens contributing three block assists and Alex Schoch adding a block as King's controlled play at the net.
Match 2: St. John Fisher 3, King's 0
In the second match, King's fell to a strong St. John Fisher squad by set scores of 25-18, 25-10, and 25-19.
The Monarchs battled early in the opening set, staying within striking distance and recording four lead changes before Fisher pulled away late. The Cardinals seized control in the second set, using a .429 hitting percentage to build a commanding lead and take a 2-0 match advantage.
King's responded with its best offensive effort in the third, hitting .273 and staying competitive throughout, but Fisher closed the set late to complete the sweep.
Alex Martelacci led the Monarchs with seven kills and six digs, while Bousquet added six. Logan Place contributed five kills and two blocks, and Antonio Tavarez chipped in three kills on .286 hitting.
Maskiell recorded 23 assists and four digs, while Bousquet led the defensive effort with seven digs.
King's will look to build on the strong performance from the opening match as they continue conference play at Widener on Wednesday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m..
