Monarchs Drop Conference Doubleheader to Misericordia

EDWARDSVILLE, PA (April 6, 2026) -- The King's College baseball team battled through a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Bruggeworth Field, coming up short in both games against Misericordia University by scores of 4-2 and 13-3. The Monarchs sit at 3-17 overall and 0-12 in MAC play, while the Cougars move to 20-7 on the season and 12-0 in conference action.

Game 1 - L, 4-2
Misericordia struck first with a two‑run second inning, manufacturing runs with a walk, a hit batter, and a pair of productive outs to take an early lead. King's starter Connor Reynolds settled in following the damage, working a clean third inning and then retiring the side in order in the fifth as the Monarchs kept the game within reach.

King's responded in the bottom of the third with its most productive sequence of the afternoon. Zach Jenkins sparked the rally with a double to left‑center field, and Miles Carey followed with an RBI single to bring the Monarchs on the board. Mikey Timinski then delivered an RBI double down the left‑field line to score Carey and even the game at 2-2.

The Cougars regained the lead in the fourth on an unearned run and added an insurance run in the sixth. Reynolds limited further damage by working around traffic and turned in another clean defensive frame in the seventh, striking out the final batter of the inning to keep the deficit at two heading into the final at‑bats.

Misericordia's bullpen kept King's off the board over the final innings, closing out the opener despite continued pressure. Jenkins and Carey each finished with two hits, while Timinski recorded an RBI double as the Monarchs totaled seven hits. Reynolds went the distance on the mound for King's, allowing five hits while striking out two as the Monarchs wrapped up the opening game of the doubleheader.

King's totaled seven hits in the opener, with Jenkins leading the attack by finishing 2‑for‑3 with a double and a run scored. Carey also recorded two hits and drove in a run, while Timinski added an RBI double as the Monarchs accounted for both of their runs in the third inning.

On the mound, Reynolds went the distance, working all seven innings while allowing four runs, only two earned, on five hits. He struck out two and limited extra‑base damage throughout the afternoon, keeping the Monarchs within striking distance until late.

Game 2 - L, 13-3
Misericordia jumped out early in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the top of the first to take control. The Cougars capitalized on a pair of extra-base hits and a sacrifice fly before the Monarchs were able to escape the inning.

King's settled defensively in the second and third innings. In the top of the third, Neff recorded the first out with a highlight-reel diving catch in center field, cutting off a sinking liner and setting the tone for a scoreless frame. The Monarchs followed with another strong defensive moment in the fourth, as Noone charged in from third base and made a diving catch on a short pop up on the left side of the infield to help keep the Cougars off the board again.

Misericordia tacked on two runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth, slowly extending the lead. King's pushed across its first run in the bottom of the third on an unearned tally, but struggled to string together hits against the Cougars' pitching staff through the middle innings.

The Monarchs showed life in the seventh. After a walk and a single put runners aboard, a two-run single by Timinski brought King's within striking distance at 10-3 and energized the home dugout. Despite continued pressure, the Monarchs were unable to build on the rally as Misericordia closed the game with late runs in the eighth and ninth to secure the victory, 13-3.

The Monarchs posted eight hits in the nightcap, highlighted by a two‑RBI single from Timinski during a seventh‑inning rally. Noone finished 2‑for‑4 with two runs scored, while Neff and Andino each chipped in a hit as King's spread offense throughout the lineup.

King's used six pitchers in the second game, with Dusty Shaver providing three innings in relief and limiting Misericordia to two runs during his stint. Hynick struck out one over two innings late, while the Monarchs also turned a double play and recorded several key outs defensively to complement strong outfield and infield play.

The Monarchs return home to Lipo Field tomorrow afternoon, hosting Penn State Hazleton in a nonconference midweek matchup. First pitch against the Lions is slated for 4:00 p.m.
