Varner Claims Second Gold, Smith Breaks Three School Records at Day Two of MAC Outdoor Championships

GRANTHAM, PA (May 1, 2026) –  The King's College women's track and field team returned to action Friday for day two of the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Starry Outdoor Track & Field Stadium, hosted by Messiah University. After two days of competition, the Monarchs currently sit in third with a team score of 42 points, only seven points behind first place DeSales.

Dani Rimsky opened day two of the outdoor heptathlon by finishing eighth in the long jump at 4.18 meters. Rimsky closed out the event by earning ninth in the 800 meter run at 3:08.57. After completing all the events, Rimsky totaled a score of 2,313 points to earn ninth place.

In the track events, the squad of Ava Butcher, Ali Butcher, Erin McLean, and Kat Smith ran a school record and qualifying time in the 4x100 meter relay preliminaries by stopping the clock at 49.59 to place fourth overall. They're performance was .26 seconds quicker than the original record set nearly three weeks ago at the Messiah Invitational.

In the 400-meter dash prelims, Kat Smith, Ava Butcher, and Eveyln Sahd all qualified for the final. Smith placed second overall in the event with a personal best and school record time of 58.03, as she breaks teammate Ava Butcher's record of 58.55,
set at the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 12, by .52 seconds. Ava Butcher additionally broke her own record with a personal best time of 58.20 to earn third in the event as well. Sahd finished seventh overall with a qualifying time of 1:00.49 seconds in her first individual outdoor conference championship race.

First year Ali Butcher made her collegiate conference debut, as she earned seventh in the 100-meter dash prelims at 12.75 seconds, enough to send her to the final tomorrow. McLean took 24th at 13.33 seconds. 

Smith continued her historic day by breaking another program record, as she sprinted a time of 26.07 seconds in the 200 meter dash prelims to reach for sixth. She dethrones Abigail Springer's record of last year by just .2 seconds. Smith additionally qualified for the finals of the event as well. Ali Butcher earned 12th overall by crossing the line in 26.95 seconds.

In the field events, Brandy Varner took home her second gold medal of this year's MAC Outdoor Championships, as she placed first overall in a field of 24 competitors in the discus throw at 43.61 meters. Caitlin Kirk posted a sixth place podium finish at 34.15 meters, Aerie Sanders got ninth with a mark of 32.29 meter, and Katey Shoemaker got 15th at 30.60 meters.

Avery Kosloski got a seventh place podium finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.51 meters, while teammate Abby Thompson placed eleventh at 1.36 meters. In the long jump, Soyer Delucy took tenth overall at 5.02 meters.

The King's College women's track & field team resumes competition on Saturday, May 2, at 9:00 a.m., as they compete in the final day of the conference championships.
