LA CROSSE, WI (May 22, 2026) – King's College senior Brandy Varner returned to action Friday afternoon, competing in the shot put on Day 2 of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

After finishing seventh overall in the discus throw Thursday, Varner looked to secure her second outdoor All-American honor and her fourth All-American accolade overall.

Varner opened the competition with a throw of 11.70 meters to sit 15th after the first round. On her second attempt, she recorded her top mark of 12.85 meters to move into 14th place. She followed with a throw of 12.08 meters on her third attempt and ultimately finished 17th overall with a mark of 12.85 meters, narrowly missing qualification for the finals.

Amblessed Okemgbo from Whitworth won the national title with a mark of 14.48 meters.

Varner became just the second Monarch in program history to compete in the event at the national championships. Jill Korgeski previously competed in the shot put at nationals in 2016 and 2018, earning first-team All-American honors with a fifth-place finish at 14.35 meters in 2018.

The senior standout is not finished yet, as she will return to action Saturday for the final event of her collegiate career. Varner, along with teammate Katey Shoemaker, will compete in the hammer throw at 12:00 p.m. on May 23.
