EDWARDSVILLE, PA (September 12, 2026) -- The King's College men's tennis team opened the 2026-27 season on Saturday, hosting the annual King's Invitational at Kirby Park. Competitors from the Monarchs, Lycoming College, Marywood University, Misericordia University, Muhlenberg College, Penn College, and Wilkes University took part in a full day of singles and doubles competition across seven singles flights and four doubles flights.
 
Nate Linen represented the Monarchs in the No. 1 singles flight, falling to Marywood by scores of 6-3 and 6-0 in quarterfinal action. Gavin Hall advanced to the semifinals of the No. 2 singles bracket after earning a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Misericordia. Hall's run came to an end against Muhlenberg, which posted a 6-1, 6-1 semifinal win before eventually claiming the flight title.
 
At No. 3 singles, Logan Tomkins dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Marywood in the quarterfinal round. Zackary Bedwell received an opening-round bye in the No. 4 singles flight before falling to Wilkes, 6-1, 6-2, in semifinal play. William Savner competed in the No. 5 singles bracket, where Wilkes earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory in quarterfinal action.
 
One of the most competitive matches of the day for the Monarchs came in the No. 6 singles flight. Gianmarco Caringi battled Marywood in a tightly contested quarterfinal matchup before ultimately coming up short by scores of 7-6(5) and 6-2. 
 
In doubles competition, Linen and Bedwell advanced to the semifinals of the No. 1 doubles flight after receiving an opening-round bye. Muhlenberg later posted a 6-1 victory in semifinal action. Bedwell and Savner teamed up in the No. 2 doubles bracket, falling to Misericordia in quarterfinal play. Cargini and Tomkins represented King's in the No. 3 doubles flight, where Misericordia earned a 6-3 victory in the quarterfinal round. King's did not field a team in the No. 4 doubles bracket.
 
The King's Invitational concludes on Sunday with championship matches scheduled across all remaining flights at Kirby Park. First serve is slated for 11:00 a.m.
