WILKES-BARRE, PA. (September 16, 2026) -- The King's College men's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over Union College on Wednesday evening at Betzler Field, as the Monarchs advanced to 3-2-1 on the season while Union College falls to 4-3.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Monarchs came out firing to begin the second half. Junior forward/midfielder
Santiago Javadpour scored twice in a span of just 25 seconds, giving King's a 2-0 advantage. His first goal came at 46:07 off an assist from first-year forward
Joaquin Cedillo, before Javadpour found the back of the net again at 46:32 with an assist from
CJ Anderson. The two goals marked Javadpour's first two of the season.
Junior forward
Anthony Ramirez extended the Monarchs' lead in the 54th minute, scoring to make it a 3-0 contest.
Union eventually cut into the Monarchs' lead in the 75th minute, but King's defense held strong over the final 15 minutes.
Parker Gordon and
Evan Corcoran came up with crucial defensive clears and send-aways to help withstand Union's offensive pressure late in the match. Gordon and Corcoran both played all 90 minutes for the Monarchs.
Junior goalkeeper
Ben Van Valkenburg anchored the defense with eight saves, including several key stops during Union's second-half push. King's finished with 15 shots and nine shots on goal in their first ever win against Union College., while Union recorded 21 shots and nine shots on goal.
Cedillo finished with five shots, three on goal and an assist, while Javadpour recorded two goals on three total shots.
The Monarchs return to action on the road Saturday, September 19, when King's travels to Neumann for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
