-- The King's College men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on the road against Neumann University on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 3-3-1 on the season, while Neumann improves to 4-2-1.
King's and Neumann played to a scoreless first half, with both teams looking for an opening in the attacking third. The Monarchs recorded four shots before halftime, including attempts from
Anthony Ramirez and
Jackson Nuttall, while goalkeeper
Ben Van Valkenburg made three saves to keep the match tied heading into the break.
Neumann broke through in the 58th minute when a shot from the home side found the upper left corner to give Neumann a 1-0 advantage.
The Monarchs continued to search for the equalizer throughout the second half.
Joaquin Cedillo and
Salvi DeBellis each recorded shots, while Nuttall had a late attempt blocked with just over a minute remaining. King's was unable to find the back of the net, however, as Neumann held on for the 1-0 victory.
Van Valkenburg finished with four saves in goal for the Monarchs. King's recorded six shots, while Neumann totaled 12, including five on goal. The Monarchs also earned one corner kick compared to five for the home side.
King's returns to action on Tuesday, September 22, traveling to Gettysburg College for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
