WILKES-BARRE, PA. (September 30, 2026) -- The King's College men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against Susquehanna University on Wednesday evening at Betzler Field. With the draw, the Monarchs move to 3-5-2 on the season, while Susquehanna moves to 2-6-1.Â
The Monarchs came out with early pressure, putting three shots on goal during the opening six minutes, but Susquehanna's goalkeeper turned aside each opportunity.
Susquehanna opened the scoring in the 18th minute, taking a 1-0 lead.
King's answered in the 31st minute when
Jackson Nuttall found the back of the net for his second goal of the season, leveling the match at 1-1. The Monarchs continued to create chances throughout the remainder of the first half, but the score remained tied heading into halftime.
Mordocher Musinguzi made his first collegiate start for the Monarchs and made an immediate impact defensively. In the second half, Musinguzi came up with a huge block on a close-range Susquehanna shot to help keep the match level.
Both teams continued to battle for the go-ahead goal throughout the second half.
Ben Van Valkenburg made five saves in goal for the Monarchs, including multiple key stops late in the match to preserve the draw. King's also continued to generate chances offensively, finishing with 15 shots, including eight on goal.
The River Hawks recorded 16 shots with six on goal, while King's earned five corner kicks compared to six for Susquehanna. Susquehanna's goalkeeper made seven saves.
Neither side could find the deciding goal over the final 45 minutes, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
King's returns to action Saturday, October 3, when the Monarchs travel to Hoboken, New Jersey, to face Stevens Institute of Technology at 6:00 p.m.
