WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 4, 2026) -- he King's College women's volleyball team earned a pair of convincing victories on Friday evening, sweeping both Gwynedd Mercy University and Penn State Schuylkill in a home tri-match at McGrane Gymnasium.
The Monarchs opened the day with a dominant 3-0 victory over Gwynedd Mercy, winning by scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-11. King's followed with another sweep against Penn State Schuylkill, taking the match 25-13, 25-23 and 25-17.
Kings 3, Gwynedd Mercy 0
King's controlled the action from the start against Gwynedd Mercy. After the teams traded points early in the opening set, the Monarchs used a 5-0 run to turn a narrow 8-7 advantage into a 13-7 lead. King's continued to pull away throughout the frame, with Emma Bolich recording several key kills as the Monarchs closed out the set with a 25-13 victory.
The Monarchs carried that momentum into the second set. Trailing 5-4 early, King's responded with a 10-1 run to take control of the frame. Weronika Malinowski, Lindsay Arezina and Bella Boylan all contributed kills during the stretch as the Monarchs built a commanding lead. King's eventually secured the 25-14 victory before delivering its most dominant performance of the match in the final set.
Malinowski helped the Monarchs open the third set with six consecutive points, including a service ace and a block, as King's raced out to a 6-0 advantage. The Monarchs never looked back, extending their lead to 18-7 before closing out the 25-11 victory and completing the sweep.

King's opened its second match of the day against Penn State Schuylkill with another strong start, scoring the first four points of the opening set. The Monarchs continued to build on their advantage, using a trio of service aces from Izzy Deluco during a decisive run before securing the 25-13 victory.
The second set proved to be the closest of the day. Penn State Schuylkill jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but the Monarchs battled back to even the score at 10-10. King's then rattled off four consecutive points to take its first lead of the set before building a 20-14 advantage. The visitors made one final push late, cutting the deficit to a single point, but Antonia Leary finished the set with a kill to secure the 25-23 victory.
The Monarchs once again came out firing in the third set, opening on a 7-0 run behind three service aces from Malinowski. King's extended its lead to 14-4 and maintained control despite a late push from Penn State Schuylkill. The Monarchs ultimately closed out the match with a 25-17 victory to complete their second sweep of the evening.
With the two victories, King's earned their first wins of the young season in front of the energetic home crowd at McGrane Gymnasium. The Monarchs are back in action on Wednesday September 9, as they hit the road for the first time this season to take on Penn College in Williamsport, PA at 6:00 p.m..
