Men's Soccer Falls To Oneonta On Sunday In Mayor's Cup Tournament

ONEONTA, N.Y. (September 6, 2026) -- The King's College men's soccer team suffered a 7-0 setback to Oneonta on Sunday afternoon at Red Dragon Field, dropping the Monarchs to 1-1-1 on the season. Oneonta improved to 3-0 after winning both of its matches during the Mayors Cup Tournament this weekend.

Oneonta struck early, scoring just 2:16 into the contest before adding two more goals later in the first half to take a 3-0 lead. The Red Dragons added another goal with less than a minute remaining before halftime to take a 4-0 advantage into the break.

King's created several opportunities throughout the contest, recording three shots on goal. Joaquin Cedillo put an early attempt on frame in the 24th minute, but the shot was saved. Jonathan Cortez added another shot on goal in the 58th minute, while Matthew Gandarillas put King's final attempt on target in the 86th minute.

Oneonta added three more goals in the second half, including two in the final 30 minutes. A foul on Jackson Nuttall inside the box set up a penalty kick in the 90th minute, which completed the scoring at 7-0.

Ben Van Valkenburg made one save in the first half for the Monarchs before Shane Hughes made four saves in the second half. King's finished with three shots and three shots on goal, while Oneonta recorded 19 shots and 12 shots on goal.

The Monarchs return home Wednesday night when King's welcomes crosstown rival Wilkes University to McCarthy Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
