Entering her first season as an assistant coach at King's is former Lady Monarch standout Melissa Gates. A 2008 King's graduate, gates concluded an outstanding four-year career in which she helped King's to its most successful period ever.
Gates was a standout defender for King's and helped the Lady Monarchs to back-to-back Freedom Conference championships and NCAA Division III national tournament berths in 2006 and 2007. Combine a 2004 Freedom Conference runner-up finish, gates helped King's to three conference finals.
Gates concluded her career as a three-time Freedom Conference all-star selection in field hockey. She was also named the 2007 Middle Atlantic Conference field hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Gates also doubled as a four-year standout on King's women's lacrosse team.
