Biography

Bernie Kachinko joined the King’s College staff in 2013 for his second stint, and he completed his 32nd overall season in the 2024-25 academic year.At King's Head Coach
  • Kachinko is the all-time winningest coach in King’s College women’s volleyball history as he has collected a career record of 606-375 and 89-103 in the MAC/Freedom.
  • In his first stint, he took over a struggling Monarch program to rebuild the program as it broke through in his third season, setting a then school-record for wins at 14 in 1991.
  • Saw a highly successful season in 2000 where the Monarchs finished with a 34-3 record, won the MAC Freedom Conference title, and received an NCAA Division III National Tournament berth.
  • Kachinko earned his 600th career victory on October 3, 2024 as the Monarchs defeated Marywood University in a non-conference match in McGrane Gymnasium.
  • Has coached 137 players who earned MAC Academic Honor Roll honors.
Program Milestones
  • Kachinko has coached two senior classes that saw four consecutive 20-win seasons, most recently achieved at the conclusion of the 2018 season.
  • Led a 2002 squad to its finest season in school history with a 39-2 record, posting the second-best winning percentage of any collegiate volleyball team nationally at the NCAA Division I, II, or III levels that season. They also won their third MAC Freedom title and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament “Sweet 16” for the first time in school history.
  • Compiled 32 Championships, 19 consecutive winning seasons, including 15 with 20+ wins, and 13 MAC Freedom playoff berths since 1993.

Personal
  • Resides in Hanover Township, Pa. with his wife Marina (King’s ’86) and son Lukas.
  • 1986 graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications.
  • Played for Division I level East Stroudsburg prior to transferring to Penn State.
  • 1982 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School where he was a two-time conference all-star
  • Led his high school program to the 1982 Wyoming Valley Conference championship with a perfect 10-0 record.
  • Member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association, and has served on the AVCA Top-25 National Rankings Committee from 2003-2009.
