Women's Soccer Enjoys Thrilling 4-3 Victory Over Alvernia

WOMEN'S SOCCER PICKS UP CONFERENCE VICTORY
 
WILKES-BARRE--- Brianne Schmidt scored her second goal with just 3:35 remaining as the King's College women's soccer team posted a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over Alvernia University in a Freedom Conference match up Saturday at Betzler Fields.

With the win, King's improves to 3-13-1 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Alvernia falls to 6-11 and 1-5 in the Freedom.
 
Alvernia struck blood first at 5:31 when Sara Gimber sailed the ball over the defenses' head to a streaking Kate Wimberg who scored the goal. King's would battle back and tie the game 1-1 on Schmidt's first goal of the day. Dana Kirchner would score the assist when she sent Schmidt on a break away. The Lady Monarchs would go up 2-1 when Becky Chateauneuf marked her first goal of the game off a Sara Ciarlo assist. Chateauneuf recieved the ball and juked her defender to get open before posting the ball in the top corner at 23:55.
 
Alvernia would even the score when King's scored an own at the 36:08 mark, send the game into the half tied at 2-2. The score would remain the same until 83:42 when Amy Mesce plowed in a header on a set piece sent in by Kate McCaffery to give Alvernia a 3-2 lewad with 6:08 left in the contest.

King's rallied and found the net at 86:00 when Chateauneuf beat her defender again and recieved a pass from Schmidt, tying the game 3-3. Schmidt would then score her second goal just 25 seconds later and put the Monarchs ahead 4-3 and seal the victory.
 
The Lady Monarchs are back in action next Wednesday when they travel to Purchase, NY to face Manhattanville College. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
