MONARCHS WIN IN CRUCIAL CONFERENCE GAME
PURCHASE, NY--- In a game that was rescheduled due to poor weather conditions Tuesday evening, freshman forward Billy Elliott scored the game winning goal in a crucial 2-1 conference win over Manhattanville on a cold night in Purchase, NY.
With the win, King's improves to 13-1-4 overall and 3-1-3 in the Freedom conference, and greatly improved in the league rankings. Manhattanville falls to 10-6-1 and 4-3-0 in the Freedom.
Mark Timko stepped up early for the Monarchs when he scored the first goal of the game at 25:02 in the first half. Cameron Audette dribbled the ball between two defenders and passed to his right and found Timko who finished the goal. The game would go into half time with King's up 1-0.
Manhattanville found the back of the net in the second half when forward Shaune Allen scored a loose ball off two rebounded shots, and knotted the game 1-1.
But it was King's freshman Billy Elliott who scored the final goal to give the Monarchs the win. Midfielder Dan Carle lined a corner kick into the box and found the head of Elliott for the game winner with 17:33 left in the contest.
Despite the score, The Valiants held a 22-4 advantage in shots. Monarch goalie Kelly came up big, making eight saves. Manhattanville took three corners while King's took just two.
King's will be back in action this Saturday when the travel to Center Valley, PA to face DeSales University in the final game of the regular season. Game time is set for 2:30pm.
