KING'S WRESTLERS FINISH FIFTH IN MONARCH TOURNAMENT

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College wrestling team opened the 2008-09 season with a fifth place finish at the annual Monarch Invitational Tournament Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
 
King's crowned one individual champion and two second place finishers in the event.
 
At 184, senior Zach Wilkinson was dominant, going 3-0 on the day with three pins. In the finals, Wilkinson bested Chris Elliott of York by a fall in 3:55.

In the 174-pound class, sophomore Mike Reilly was second, dropping a 5-3 decision to Frank Heffernan of Wilkes. Reilly posted decisions of 9-5 over Alex Martocello of York in the first round and 6-1 triumph over Mike Hamilton of Oneonta in the semi-finals.

At 285-pounds Monarch sophomore Chris Rash was also second, dropping a 3-1 decision to Andrew Feldman of Wilkes in the finals. Rash advanced with a 1-0 overtime victory over teammate John Humble in the second round before earning a 5-1 victory over Neil Slocum of Scranton in the semi-finals.
 
Other King's place winners include freshman Anthony Dietrick who was third at 133-poounds. Dietrick won his first round match 4-2 before falling 11-5 to York standout Kyle Flickinger in the semifinals. Dietrick won two consolation matches, including a 5-4 victory over Army's Robert Swan to finish third.
