WILKES-BARRE, PA—As far as season openers go, this one was perfect. The King's College Monarch's blanked visiting Green Mountain in a lopsided match, 7-0.
The Monarch's scored just thirteen minutes into the game when junior
Patrick McCarthy tucked a header under the cross bar off a throw from defender
Kevin Moulton. A few minutes later,
Brian McElroy sent senior
Ryan Symons on a run up the middle. Symons turned and fired the ball past the Green Mountain net minder.
Stand-out forward
Cameron Audette scored his first goal off a centering pass from midfielder
Dan Horn. Joe Bender rounded out the first half action with a goal, taking a run and handling a pass from Audette to score.
Audette came out of halftime and set the pace once again. He buried his second goal, banging the shot off the underside of the cross bar and over the out stretched hands of Green Mountain keeper Ryan Ritchie. Cameron handled the pass from Horn, who tallied his second assist of the day.
Horn would then read a great cross from defender
Paul Racz and scored a diving header. Senior
Mike Buckwash also scored on a header, coming from the foot of sophomore
Sam Cressler on a set play.
The Monarch's are back in action again Sunday against the visiting Nittany Lions of Penn States Berks. Kick-off is set for 3:30pm.
