KING'S MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO DESALES, 1-0
WILKES-BARRE – Derek Long scored the only goal 9:42 into the game as the visiting DeSales University men's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over host King's College Tuesday evening at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, DeSales improved to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the Freedom Conference while King's slipped to 10-3 and 2-1 in league play.
DeSales took a 1-0 lead at 35:18 of the first half when Derek Long took a lead pass from Aaron Gildner and outraced the King's defense down the left side before scoring just inside the right post to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead that would stand up for the remainder of the opening stanza.
King's had its chances in the second half with several close chances but could not put the ball in the ne. The Monarchs best opportunity came when Joey Bender hit the right post at the 52:59 mark.
King's outshot DeSales 18-13 and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Monarch goalie Andrew O'Shura was outstanding in goal with eight saves, including four diving stops. Bulldog keeper Kevin Lawrence also played well in making six stops, including two from up close in the final 10 minutes of play.
The Monarchs return home Friday with a 4:00 p.m. contest against Manhattanville.
