KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN 4-3 LOSS TO DESALES, CHATEANEUF SCORE HAT TRICK IN DEFEAT

WILKES-BARRE --  The King's College women's soccer team, fell behind 3-0 at the half but a furious second-half rally fell just short as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 4-3 verdict to visiting DeSales University Wednesday evening at McCarthy Stadium.

With the loss, King's fell to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in Freedom Conference games while DeSales improved to 6-6-1 and 2-0-1 in league games.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead  at 24:05 when Amanda Fink scored unassisted. DeSales extended the lead at 34:22 on a goal at 34:22 by Amanda Ziegler. The Bulldogs added what proved to be a critical goal with just 1:05 left in the first half when Haley Vollmer struck net.

King's began to rally quickly in the second half when Chateaneuf scored just 1:01 into the final period. She added her second goal off an assist from Meghan O'Kane at 55:31 to cut the lead to 3-2. DeSales responded with a goal from Katie Halpin 10 minutes later, but Chateaneuf tallied her third goal with 15:10 left in the contest. King's, however, was unable to score again and Chateaneuf missed an opportunity for a fourth goal when she missed on a penalty kick.

King's outshot DeSales 13-10 and held a 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. Lady Monarch goalie Rachael Donatiello made five saves while Bulldog keeper Melissa Millili posted six stops.

King's returns to action Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. home match against Manhattanville College at McCarthy Stadium.
