KING'S MEN'S SOCCER PICKS UP BIG 1-0 WIN OVER EASTERN IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE OPENER
 
WILKES-BARRE -- Joey Bender scored the lone goal of the game in the first half as the King's College men's soccer team opened their 2009 Freedom Conference slate with a 1-0 Homecoming victory over Eastern University Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium

With the win, King's improved to 8-2 while Eastern slipped to 4-6 and 0-1 in league play.  
 
King's pushed across what proved to be the game-winner at 21:19 of the first half when Joey Bender drilled a drop pass from Greg DeMaio into the upper right corner of the net from 25 yards out. Neither team would score the rest of the way as the Monarchs held on for the victory.

Both teams took 12 shots while the Monarchs held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

King's keeper Andrew O'Shura made four saves while Eastern goalie Jon Crowder had five stops.
