Field Hockey Falls to Eastern University in Freedom Conference Finals

KING'S FIELD HOCKEY DROPS 2-0 DECISION TO EASTERN UNIVERSITY IN THE FREEDOM CONFERENCE FINALS
 
ST. DAVID'S, PA – The King's College field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to Eastern University in the Freedom Conference finals on Saturday in St. David's,  PA.
 
 For the Eagles, who improved to a 17-4 overall record, they have not only won back-to-back Freedom Conference Championships, but they have also earned a bid into the 2009 NCAA Division III Tournament. King's fell to a 10-9 overall record to wrap-up an solid 2009 campaign.
 
It was a tight game between the two squads as neither was able to get onto the board in the first-half of play. Eastern struck first at the 57:49 mark as Kelby Bolton grabbed a ball that was deflected by keeper Erin McGinley and push it into the back of the net. Brittany Moyer would follow with a goal at 63:28 finding a cross from Elya Troup from the top of the circle and finishing the game for the Eagles.
 
Eastern held the 18-7 shots advantage, while also having a 17-3 advantage in corners. King's had four shots on goal from Shawna Walp, Shelby Trenge, Calli Berryman and Meghan Wernimont. Both Erin McGinley and Laura Ressler played the whole game in the cage for their respective teams, with McGinley making nine saves while Ressler making four in the shut-out bid.
