KING'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO WILKES 3-1, BELFANTI SETS CAREER DIGS MARK FOR LADY MONARCHS
WILKES-BARRE – Senior libero Danielle Belfanti (Reading/Holy Name) broke the King's College women's volleyball program's all-time career record for digs, but the Lady Monarchs dropped an important Freedom Conference matchup to cross-town rival Wilkes University Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
Wilkes won 3-1 by scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16. The victory improved Wilkes to 11-8 overall and 2-1 in the Freedom Conference while King's slipped to 12-5 and 1-2 in league play.
Belfanti entered the matchup needing 14 digs to break the previous mark of 1,735 set by Sandy Tarabochia from 1998-2001. Belfanti finished the day with 1,753 career digs, breaking the mark in the second game of the match when she posted 10 kills in the game. Belfanti is the owner of several digs records at King's, including 708 in 2007. She also owns King's marks in digs in a three-game match (35), digs in four-game match (49), and digs in a five-game match (45), all set in 2007.
Wilkes was led by Marissa Harrison with 26 kills and 17 digs while LeeAnn Searfoss distributed 47 assists with 16 digs. Julie Page tallied eight kills and 10 digs while Kate McGurk added seven kills and 17 digs. Emily DeBuck shipped in with seven kills,
King's will next compete in the Oneonta State Invitational Tournament in Oneonta, NY Friday and Saturday.
