MONARCH SOCCER TEAM FALLS TO MISERI, 2-0
DALLAS -- The Misericordia University men's soccer team built a 2-0 lead then held off a late King's College rally to post a 2-1 Freedom Conference victory Tuesday night at Manglesdorf Field.
With the win, Misericordia improved to 8-6 overall and 1-2 in league play. The Monarchs, meanwhile, slipped to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in Freedom Conference games.
The game remained scoreless the 31:52 mark of the first half when Matt Scott scored unassisted for Misericordia, as the Cougars would later take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Misericordia pushed the score to 2-0 at 60:07 when Dan Pinto struck net on a shot from 15 yards out.
King's finally got on the board at 88:10 on a unassised goal by Tim Meyer but it was not enough as the Cougars held on for the victory.
Misericordia held a 14-12 advantage in shots while the Monarchs owned an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
King's goalie Andrew O'Shura made five saves in the game while Misericordia counterpart Mason Astaneh registered three shots.
The Monarchs will next travel to Purchase, NY to face Manhattanville College Saturday in a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
