KING'S FIELD HOCKEY RALLIES PAST MISERICORDIA, 2-1
WILKES-BARRE – Calli Berryman scored the game-winning goal with just 1:53 left in the contest as the King's College field hockey team rallied for an important 2-1 Freedom Conference victory over Misericordia University Thursday at McCarthy Stadium.
With the win, King's improved to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in conference games while Misericordia slipped to 7-6 and 3-1 in league competition.
After a scoreless opening half, Misericordia got on the board first when Samantha Sorokas scored unassisted at 38:50 of the second stanza on just the Cougars third shot of the game when her shot from the right wing found the net just inside the left post.
King's tied the score with 10:19 remaining when Jenera Quinones dribbled through several defenders before beating Cougar goalie Haley Brandy to bring the score to 1-1.
With the game appeared headed for overtime, Berryman carried the ball deep on goal managed to poke the ball past Brandt for what proved to be the deciding goal.
King's dominated the game statistically, holding an 18-3 advantage in shots as well as a 12-5 lead in penalty corners. King's goalie Erin McGinley was forced to make just one save while Brandt had five stops for the Cougars.
King's returns to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home contest against Eastern University.
