KING'S WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO MARYWOOD 6-0
SCRANTON -- Host Marywood University broke open a close game with five second half goal as the Pacers posted a 6-0 victory over visiting King's College Wednesday night in Scranton.
With the win, King's slipped to 1-16-1 while Marywood improved to 13-4-1.
Ravaged by several injuries, including the loss of two-time All-Freedom Conference selection and leading scorer Becky Chateauneuf, King's was unable to muster any offense in the game and was held to one shot in the contest.
After Emma Nye scored for the Pacers just 0:51 into the match, King's hung tough defensively and managed to trail just 1-0 at the break despite being outshot 12-1 over the first 45 minutes of the game. In the second half, however, Siobhan Blancaflor scored 2:51 into the second stanza and Erin Jones struck net just 0:25 later to give the Pacers a 3-0 lead. Blancaflor added two more goals to register a hat trick while Nye added her second goal of the game .
Marywood outshot King's 21-1 in the game and held a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks. King's Katie Mangan, a midfielder who was thrust in goal due to an injury to starter Melissa D'Aniello, made four saves in the game.
King's closes out its season Saturday with a 12:00 noon matchup in Center Valley against DeSales University.
