KING'S MEN'S SOCCER SEES PLAYOFF HOPES DASHED IN 1-0 DEFEAT AT DESALES IN SEASON FINALE
CENTER VALLEY, PA – DeSales University's Steven Krause headed home a long throw just 44 seconds into the match and the Bulldog defense held on throughout to post a 1-0 win over visiting King's College in both teams' Freedom Conference finales Saturday afternoon.
With the loss King's finishes its 2010 campaign at 10-9 as the loss officially eliminated the Monarchs from playoff contention. DeSales improves to 13-4-2 on the year and have secured the number one seed in next week's Freedom Conference Tournament.
Krause's header beat Monarch goalie Andrew O'Shura to the high left corner of the goal, and proved to be the difference in the contest. King's had several opportunities throughout to tie the match, but Bulldog goalie Adam Franczak was solid in net making seven saves to preserve the conference win.
In a must-win situation for their playoff hopes, King's played well throughout, outshooting DeSales 14-12 while garnering eight corner kick attempts. Greg DeMaio led the offensive attack with four shots, while Joey Bender followed with three shots on goal.
O'Shura finished with three saves in net for King's. Mark Labbadia came on in relief to post three stops in 54:33 minutes of action.
