KING'S FIELD HOCKEY TRAVELS TO EASTERN FOR FREEDOM CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY, VIEW LIVESTATS
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College field hockey team looks for revenge Saturday when the Lady Monarchs travel to St. David's, Pa. for a rematch of the 2009 title game when they face Eastern University for the Freedom Conference Championship at 1:00 p.m. Eastern posted a 2-0 win in last season's title game to claim back-to-back Freedom titles and an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship Tournament.
Tickets for the game, which are mandated by the MAC Office, have been set at $5 adults, $4 for seniors, and $2 for students. Children under age-six will be admitted free. #2 seeded King's enters the title game with a 15-4 overall mark following a thrilling 2-1 double overtime victory against FDU-Florham in Wednesday's semi-final. King's is led by Freedom Conference Player of the Year junior Jenera Quinones with 45 points on 18 goals and nine assists, including the game-winning goal against the Devils. Quinones surpassed the 100-point plateau for her career in the victory against FDU-Florham, standing with 101 points heading into the championship contest. All-Freedom performer sophomore Calli Berryman follows with 44 points on 17 goals and 10 assists, while senior Danielle Terracciano adds 26 points on 12 goals and two helpers. All-Freedom selection, senior Shelby Trenge, tallies 11 points on three goals and five assists from her midfield position. Senior goalie Erin McGinley boasts a 1.33 goals against average with 79 saves and four shutouts in 19 matches in net.
#1 seeded Eastern, the defending Freedom champion, enters the game with a 18-2 overall record after a 3-0 shutout win against Delaware Valley in Wednesday's semi-final. The Eagles are led by All-Freedom performers Jess Jaindle, Yvonne Herbster, Kim Campbell, and Brittany Moyer. Jaindle, a second-team selection, tops the squad with 33 points on 16 goals and one assist. Herbster adds 32 points on 10 goals and 12 assists, while Campbell contributes 31 points on 12 goals and seven helpers. Moyer, a first-team honoree, tallies 30 points on 10 goals and 10 assists. Eastern keeper Laura Ressler has been steady in net posting a 0.76 goals against average with 91 saves in 20 matches in net.
Over the past three seasons the two teams have met four times, including the 2009 Freedom Championship game, with Eastern posting a 4-0 record. The Eagles have outscored the Lady Monarchs 13-5 in those contests. Winner of the match will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship Tournament.
