KING'S FIELD HOCKEY FALLKS TO 8TH RANKED EASTERN 3-0 IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE TITLE GAME
ST. DAVID'S – Top-seeded Eastern University built a 2-0 halftime lead and kept the King's College field hockey team off the scoreboard for the first time this season as the Eagles won their third straight Freedom Conference championship with a 3-0 victory Saturday in St. David's.
With the win, the Eagles, ranked eighth nationally in Division III, improved to 19-2 on the year and receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament. King's, meanwhile, conclude its campaign with a fine 15-5 mark with its second straight loss to Eastern in the conference championship game. The Eagles defeated King's 2-0 a year ago.
Easter pushed across the first goal 10:15 into the game when Brittany Moyer knocked in a rebound off of a Yvonne Herbster shot. At the 27:10 mark, the lead grew to 2-0 when Lisa Gocht redirected a inner feed into the Lady Monarch net.
The Eagles tacked on the final goal of the game at 44:24 when Herbster scored unassisted following a penalty corner.
Eastern held a slim 9-7 advantage in shots and a 10-7 lead in penalty corners. King's goalie Erin McGinley made three saves while Eagle keeper Laura Ressler posted six stops.
