DESIR PLACES THIRD FOR KING'S WRESTLERS AT R.I.T. INVITATIONAL

ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Tommy Desir (Scranton/Scranton) placed third in the 157-pound weight class to pace the King's College wrestling team at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational Saturday in Rochester, NY.

A banged up King's team entered only 10 wrestlers in the event and did not field a single wrestler in three weight classes. As a team, King's finished eighth in the nine-team field.

Desir won his first match with a 14-5 decision over Evan McDowell of Wesleyan University before falling to eventual champion Troy Sterling of Case Western by a 8-4 verdict. In the wrestlebacks, Desir won four straight matches. He tallied a pin over Adam Willman  of Cortland, then added a 12-2 major decision against Tony Vorndran of Morrisville. In the consolation semi-finals, he earned a 10-7 win over Vinne Puzzuli of John Carroll before downing second-seeded Troy Sampson of Wesleyan by a 7-3 count.

At 133, King's freshman Rich Biesadesky (Hazleton/Hazleton Area) placed fifth. He dropped his first-round match to third-seeded Andrew Taylor of Baldwin Wallace by a 12-4 decision. In the consolations, he bested Joe Beaumont of RIT 9-5 before earning a 5-0 decision over Justin Metz of Wesleyan. He fell to Andrew Taylor of Baldwin Wallace 7-5 in the consolation semi-finals, but rebounded to decision Randy Sisenstien 6-3 to claim fifth place.

King's returns to the mats Wednesday when the Monarchs host eighth-ranked Delaware Valley College  at 7:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium
