KING'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO 5TH RANKED EASTERN, 3-0
WILKES-BARRE — The visiting Eastern University women's volleyball team lived up to its number-five NCAA Division III national rankings as the Eagles posted a 3-0 victory over host King's College Tuesday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, Eastern improved to 22-1 and 6-0 in Freedom Conference matches while King's slipped to 3-19 and 1-5 in league competition.
The Lady Monarchs played gritty volleyball for the first two games as King's played without its top two attackers
Heather Bowman and
Lauren Rockhold, each who missed the match with injuries. The Lady Monarchs hung close early on in each of the first two games before Eastern put on the throttle and played like a "Final Four" contender.
King's was paced by
Emily Heimbecker with five kills and eighth digs while
Katie Senunas followed with three kills.
Amanda Horton handed out seven assists while
Alyssa Powell tallied four digs.
Three-time all-American Courtney Reinhold led the Eagles with a dominating effort, posting 14 kills with 14 service aces. Three-time all-American setter Maria Horning dished out 32 assists with four digs. Lauren Sproles tallied 12 kills while Katrina Pisch added eight kills. As a team, Eastern posted 20 aces in the match.
King's will be idle until Wednesday, October 26 when the Lady Monarchs travel to Doylestown to face Delaware Valley College in a 7:00 p.m. contest
